Spain to start a comprehensive Covid-19 vaccination program

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that Spain will start a comprehensive coronavirus vaccination program in January and is expected to cover a significant portion of the population within six months.

He said that Spain and Germany are the first EU countries to develop a complete vaccination plan. Sanchez said at a press conference after the two-day G20 Leaders Online Summit: “The campaign will start in January and there will be 13,000 vaccination sites.” “In the first half of this year, a large part of the population will be vaccinated without any guarantee.”

Sanchez said that Spain will implement a single national strategy starting with “priority groups”, adding that he will submit the plan to the Cabinet on Tuesday. He also said that more health professionals will be recruited.

Sanchez said: “We still have a difficult few months, but the road map has been drawn up.” The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Spain is the second highest after Western Europe, after France, with approximately 1.5 million cases and 46,619 deaths due to COVID-19.
