Portugal: Prime Minister announces school closures for 15 days

Prime Minister Antonio Costa announced today the closure of education schools in Portugal at all levels for 15 days to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.

The Prime Minister stated that this measure, which will take effect tomorrow (January 22, Friday) after the meeting of ministers, is justified “precautionary principle” because such cases increase the most infectious SARS -CoV-2 variant, from 8% last week to about 20% currently.

António Costa stated that it will compensate for the 15-day rest period during another holiday period and promised to take measures similar to the family support measures implemented during the first lockdown in 2020.
