Spain: British government urges more elasticity after entry ban


For some air passengers who were refused entry to Spain and immediately returned to the UK, after a few days of turbulence, the British consular services “requested the Spanish government to provide greater flexibility.” 


The root of the problem lies in three key issues. One of them is related to the extension of travel restrictions that were originally scheduled to be implemented on December 22, which was implemented after the discovery of a new SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7 variant, which to a large extent This led to a sudden increase in new cases. 


In the United Kingdom, the situation regarding people seeking residency rights during Spain and Brexit.

During the transition year before the UK finally left the European Union on Thursday night, many British nationals started the process of applying for Spanish residency. Some of them already lived in Spain, while others planned to do so, but mainly because of events.  


The fact that the coronavirus preventing travel and the fact that many applicants did not begin the application process until later this year has created a large backlog. As a result, it has become increasingly difficult to obtain residence appointments by the end of the year. 


At the end of the year, hundreds (possibly thousands) of British nationals were in “residence dilemma”.
