Spain will end COVID-19 restrictions and return to normal life

Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, said that wearing masks in public places will be phased out shortly, and that most of everyday life would return to normal.

Mr Sanchez predicted that rising vaccination levels will allow most Covid restrictions to be eased in several of the country’s tourist attractions.

Masks have been required since May 2020, and pubs and restaurants have faced restrictions, forcing many to lock their doors at 5 p.m.

Tourists from EU nations may again freely visit Spain, but expatriates and business owners in many places are concerned that the continuing absence of British tourists would be expensive.

Government authorities across Spain, on the other hand, are now keen to jump-start the tourism economy, with several regulations being relaxed this weekend.

Bars and restaurants in the Balearic Islands, including Majorca, Menorca, and Ibiza, will be permitted to stay up until 2 a.m. both indoors and out.

Indoor capacity is still limited to 50%, with six clients per table and up to 12 individuals sharing a table outside.

From Saturday, nightclubs, drink and music bars will be able to stay open until 2 a.m. with the same capacity restriction, but no dancing will be permitted. These additional limitations will be in effect until July 2nd, after which they will be eased even more provided infection rates stay steady.
