Crete is ranked first in Kayak‘s “Best Islands of Europe” rating, which highlights its inexpensive costs, pleasant weather, and sandy beaches. Tenerife, Cyprus, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria round out the top five.
Kayak, a prominent vacation search engine, ranked 70 islands based on weather, accessibility, pricing, things to do, kid friendliness, Covid-19 safety, and sustainability, then split these categories into 19 criteria. The islands with the highest scores excelled in a variety of areas.
According to its “Best Islands in Europe” ranking, the Greek island of Crete is in first place, with excellent marks for its weather, affordable lodging and restaurants, and low local expenditures (food and transportation). According to Kayak, Crete has the most sustainable and sandy beaches of all the islands under consideration.

On the other side, Mykonos is one of Europe’s most costly islands to visit. According to Kayak’s “Best islands for budget holidays” category, visitors should “think twice” about visiting Mykonos, where “you can anticipate to spend some of the highest rates on average for lodging that even exceeds some of the Nordic islands,” according to the research.
