Greece: New Covid-19 rules in Zakynthos and Chania

 

On Thursday, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection issued further precautionary measures for the popular Greek resorts of Zakynthos and Chania, Crete, in order to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further (Covid-19). An evening curfew and a music restriction are among the measures that will take effect on Friday.

 


Due to the recent rise in instances, both locations have been placed to “red” (level 4) status on Greece’s Covid-19 risk-assessment map, according to a notification by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection. According to the statement, the epidemiological load on Zakynthos has grown by 69%, while Chania’s burden has increased by 54%.

The following are the new limitations for Zakynthos and Chania:

— A five-hour curfew from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. (movement is allowed only for work and health reasons).

– A 24-hour music prohibition (at all beach bars, cafés, restaurants, and bars) will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Private meetings and activities with more than 20 persons are prohibited, according to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection. Fines ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 euros will be imposed on violators who arrange private parties.

The restrictions will be in effect until Friday, August 13th, when the Covid10 health committee will re-evaluate them.

Similar limitations were enforced on Mykonos for ten days in mid-July, it should be noted.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection also stated that the towns of Rhodes and Ios have been reclassified as “orange” (level 3) on the Covid-19 risk-assessment map, and that they would be monitored more closely.
