The decision was made public on Thursday, October 7, and it also removed the obligation for vaccinated UK travelers to test for COVID-19.
“Today, the government passed adjustments to the temporary entry prohibition into Sweden. According to a news release released yesterday by the Swedish Ministry of Justice, “travelers who can provide a vaccine certificate issued in the United Kingdom will be excluded from the ban on entry to Sweden and the COVID-19 test requirement.”
The same reasons why, since December 31, 2020, when the country officially exited the EU and Brits became third-country citizens to the Member States, travelers from third countries, including UK citizens, have been barred from entering the country.
Travelers were barred from entering Swedish territory unless their goal of travel fell under one of the categories protected from the prohibition.
While most third-country visitors will continue to be subject to the prohibition, vaccinated UK visitors will no longer be starting Monday. Choose your route from over 400,000 daily connections to over 2,500 destinations in 35 European countries with FlixBus!
“People traveling to Sweden who can provide a vaccination certificate obtained in the United Kingdom are exempt from the entry ban and the test requirement,” according to the press release.
Until now, vaccinated UK visitors were only allowed to enter with restrictions if they had a valid reason. Those who were not vaccinated but needed to travel for work had to test for COVID-19 when they arrived.Enjoyed this post? Never miss out on future posts by following us.
