Switzerland:Tourism industry topped pre-pandemic levels

In August, Switzerland saw a 34% rise in hotel overnight stays compared to the pre-pandemic period, as the majority of Swiss citizens chose to spend their summer vacations in the nation.

According to a press release issued by Switzerland‘s Tourism official page yesterday, October 5, overnight hotel night stays by local guests have been higher than ever before, with the country recording an all-time high of more than 2.5 million hotel night stays per month, according to SchengenVisainfo.com.

“In August, the Swiss created 2.57 million hotel overnight stays in Switzerland, a significant 34.4 percent increase over the previous “average” year before the pandemic.” And an unheard-of achievement,” reads a statement from Switzerland Tourism.

Furthermore, after Switzerland opted to relax entry restrictions and open its borders to immigrants who have received full COVID-19 vaccination, the country has been able to practically match the levels seen in 2019. In August, 89 percent of European visitors stayed in Switzerland, compared to 89% in the same month last year.

Similarly to previous summers, the majority of visitors to Switzerland in August came from the Benelux countries, with 231,000 overnight stays, up 21% over the previous year’s data, including 170,000 overnight stays (+11%) from France.

Germany was among the nations whose residents chose to visit Switzerland this summer, with 485,000 overnight stays, a seven percent rise over two years ago. Enjoyed this post? Never miss out on future posts by following us.

Despite the usual epidemiological scenario, Benelux nations, France, and Germany have not booked such high overnight stays in Switzerland’s market during August for over 6 years, which has been a surprise for the country. Save Big on Cheap Flights
