Air pollution deaths in Europe are worse in Italy

According to a report released on Monday by the European Environment Agency, Italy is among the worst performers in the EU when it comes to mortality caused by air pollution.


According to the report, Italyranked first in the world in terms of premature fatalities caused by nitrogen dioxide (NO2) exposure in 2019, with 10,640 deaths, up 2% from the previous year.

With 49,900 premature deaths attributable to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), Italy ranked second only to Germany in terms of premature mortality.


With 3,170 deaths attributed to ozone (O3) exposure, it recorded a 5% rise.
