Spain: The most wonderful honeymoon destinations

Put a pin on your map over the country of Spain if you’re planning a honeymoon that has it all. The nation, which has one of Europe’s oldest and richest civilizations, has everything a couple might desire in a honeymoon: stunning beaches, amazing food, incredible architecture, vibrant city centers, and sizzling nightlife.

“Spain provides a good mix of activities and a longer season than some other popular honeymoon destinations,” says Brendan Drewniany of Black Tomato, a custom travel planning business located in the United Kingdom. “[The country] is bursting at the seams with excellent food of all kinds—from street food to Michelin-starred haute cuisine—and its culture is incredibly rich…home it’s to a lot of interesting and compelling modern art and design for people who prefer more modern style mixed with ancient cathedrals and alleyways.”

Chris McCarthy, the creator of kimkim, a company that helps tourists design personalized itineraries, says that a trip to Spain for two people during peak season might cost approximately $9,000, including activities, accommodation, and transportation. He says that they regularly deal with a variety of price ranges for Spain, but that on average $300 to $400 per couple per day is recommended and might go higher from there depending on your choice of hotel-style and activities.

Honeymoon Destinations

Madrid

This bustling metropolis is excellent for couples who like to keep active with shopping, dining, live entertainment, and visiting world-class museums.

Despite the fact that the city is not always quaint or peaceful, several of its luxury hotels provide a refreshing escape from Madrid’s bustle. The Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid, is the ideal place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. It is part of the Golden Triangle of Art, which is characterized by three of the city’s most significant museums: the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Reina Sofía Museum of Modern Art.

Make a point of seeing a genuine flamenco act or dining at the oldest restaurant in the world, Sobrino de Botin, which has been operating since 1725.

Barcelona

The bustling city is ideal for honeymooners who want to see several of Spain’s wonders in one location: beaches, gastronomy, art, and architecture abound.

In this cosmopolitan metropolis, the Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s architecture, and Montjuic Castle are must-see architectural monuments. Foodies may spend a day walking through the Boquera market to get a sense of the city. Start in Barcelona and embark on VBT’s self-guided bike trip for a thrilling tour of Costa Brava. On this trip, you’ll travel around Catalonia at your own speed on a comfortable inn-to-inn tour. Enjoy meandering paths with magnificent seaside vistas while pedaling into old fishing ports frequented by Hemingway and Dalí.

Valencia

Renowned for its mouthwatering gastronomy and home to the famed Spanish delicacy paella, Valencia is a must-visit destination when discovering Spain for the first time as a married couple. Located on the Iberian Peninsula with immediate access to the Mediterranean Sea, newlyweds who visit Valencia can explore 75 miles of beaches, including the famous La Malvarrosa. With year-round warm weather and plenty of outdoor activities such as bike routes that span nearly 100 miles and hike trails that cross the Albufera National Park, you’ll have plenty to do when you’re not canoodling as a couple in your honeymoon suite.

Couples can discover a broad range of romantic hotel alternatives in Valencia, from beachside accommodations to luxurious palaces. The ancient Las Arenas Balneario Resort, which first opened its doors in 1898 and is located near Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences, is a beachside resort with a fortunate position. The five-star Palacio Vallier is a 19th-century house with top-of-the-line amenities and a rooftop patio with breath-taking views. One Shot Mercat 09, located in Valencia’s Old Town, is ideal for couples seeking seclusion in a boutique hotel. The facility features large rooms with contemporary décor and world fusion cuisine.

The Balearic Islands (Ibiza and Formentera)

Ibiza is the place to be for newlyweds who want to party after the wedding. While there are plenty of possibilities to jump from fashionable club to trendy lounge each night on the island, couples should visit Las Delias, a market that pays homage to the island’s hippy culture of the 1970s, during the day. For a day at the beach, visit the coastlines of Cala Comte, Cala Salada, or Cala Bassa for crystal blue seas.
