Luís Araújo, head of Portugal’s tourist board, said at a presentation of the “Reactivate tourism. Build the Future” initiative in Ponta Delgada that tourism in Portugal could approach 2019 levels by 2023.
According to Luís Araújo, this objective is completely achievable, albeit it is highly dependent on the connection and transportation circumstances of the future years. According to the head of Turismo de Portugal, current indicators suggest “great demand” for the location.
Portugal’s tourist sector is expected to generate €27 billion in revenue by 2027 if the strategy is implemented. Building the Future, Supporting Business, Generating Business, and Fostering Safety are the four axes that this initiative is based on.
The industry will get €6.11 billion in overall funding, with €4.07 billion coming from the country’s development bank, Banco Português de Fomento.
Companies will get almost half of the whole pot, or €3 billion, while the building future component will receive €2.5 billion.
