The Ministry of Health announced that so far only 2% of Spaniards who have been offered the Covid-19 vaccine have refused to take it, including those who cannot get the vaccine due to medical reasons.
According to senior health official Silvia Calzon, the data seen is indeed positive, she explained: “This shows the confidence that the entire Spanish society has in vaccination.”
So far, 1.2 million people in Spain have received two doses of the vaccine. As of Wednesday, 2.1 million people among priority groups including frontline medical staff, over 80s and nursing home residents and staff have received the first dose of the vaccine. In addition, only about 45,000 people refuse to be vaccinated.
The recent decline in the number of cases has prompted Fernando Simon, the head of the health emergency, to suggest that the coronavirus restrictions may be lessened in the near future. Although he also pointed out that the number of patients with the virus still stresses the hospital.
