Spain’s COVID-19 incidence falls below extreme risk

The data contained in the latest coronavirus update provided by the Spanish Ministry of Health on Tuesday afternoon seems to confirm that the third Covid infection from the Christmas and New Year holidays has ended, with 7,461 new cases reportedly the lowest since the end of August last year The total number of days.

At the same time, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate across the country has dropped to 236 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, below the threshold of 250 which marks “extreme risk” for the first time since 22nd December.

In the following two months, January 27 reached a peak of 899. In some areas, this number soared to 1,500, but from the current situation, only six of the country’s 17 autonomous regions are still above 250: Madrid (363), Basque Country (287), Aragon (271), Andalusia (261), Castilla y León (252), and Asturias (251).

The two North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla are also worryingly high with a high ratio of 331 and 435 respectively, while the other end of the scale is the island areas of the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands (110), and Extremadura (96). In all regions, the lower rates in the last 7 days indicate that further declines are possible.
