More than 5 million citizens of EU member states have applied for the “EU Settlement Scheme” in the UK, and the deadline for application is less than 5 months.
According to data released by the British Home Office on February 11, 2021, the British authorities accepted over 5 million applications, of which more than 4.5 million were from England, 83,800 from Wales, 252,400 from Scotland and another 81,800 from Northern Ireland.
The Ministry of the Interior pointed out that more than 4.5 million people have applied through the EU settlement plan to stay in the UK after Brexit. Home Secretary Priti Patel commented on the 5 million application milestone, calling it “great news.”
“The gratifying news is that the EU reconciliation program, which has achieved great success, has applied for more than 5 million. This is the largest of its kind in the history of the United Kingdom, which means that European citizens and their families can continue to make the United Kingdom home .” Patel said.
The Minister for Future Borders and Immigration, Kevin Foster, took this opportunity to urge European citizens and their family members to apply as soon as possible and to obtain status with the millions of people who have passed this process.
He said: “There is a lot of support, and the new funding announced today means ensuring that everyone gets the help they need, and no effort will be spared.”
