ISTAT said on Wednesday that as more young people and highly educated Italians go abroad, the “brain drain” in Italy is increasing.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of immigrants increased by 4.5% in 2019. ISTAT says that one-third of them are graduates.
At the same time, the statistical agency said that the number of foreign immigrants entering Italy fell by 7.3%. Successive governments have tried to reverse this waste by improving the efficiency of the job market and trying to make research positions more accessible.
However, the labor market has stagnated, the youth unemployment rate has hit a record high, and the so-called baron’s lock in raising professional standards in universities seems to be as strong as ever.
