France: Nationwide survey on recreational marijuana

The French parliament launched an online questionnaire today to better understand the public’s views on the use of recreational marijuana.

The survey will have five or six questions and will be available on the National Assembly website for approximately one month.

Robin Reda, Essonne’s member of parliament and project leader, told AFP that a detailed report will be provided at the end of March or early April. He said: “The goal is to provide as much information as possible for the debate. The success of the survey depends on the largest number of people going to participate.”

The parliamentary group behind the project will also conclude in mid-February on the use of medical marijuana (including products such as cannabidiol and CBD). France had previously tried to ban such products-but in November 2020, France was banned from doing so.

In 2019, the National Assembly also approved an experiment to provide at least 3,000 patients with serious illnesses with non-smoking forms of medical marijuana. The trial was originally scheduled to start in March 2020, but it was postponed due to the health crisis.
