On January 6, the official website of the city of Riga informed the residents of the Latvian capital of its ongoing commitment to ensure that the most vulnerable population groups do not go hungry this year.
More importantly, those who have a social service card to prove their low-income status can renew their visa without taking any administrative measures while taking health pandemic measures (temporarily means until the age of 28 in February).
In terms of quantity, this basic service for the poor in the city will be funded by the Social Affairs Committee at an amount of 870,000 euros. Since the end of last year, there are now 11 hot food distribution points across Riga, distributed in various regions, providing an average of 1,400 meals a day.
In order to use these catering services, citizens should bring a special card to prove their low income status (as mentioned earlier, these cards will be automatically extended until February 28).
For those who want to apply for the card, they can make an appointment by making an appointment at one of the Rīgassatiksme customer service centers, and they will have to show their ID and Riga social proof.
People must also bring their own resealable utensils or containers to take the food home. It is important to remember that the various food distribution centers (their locations and working hours can be found on the Riga City Government website) only work on weekdays.
