Greek government tightens COVID-19 restrictions

The Greek government has decided to tighten restrictions on the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic next week to keep virus infections at a low level and enable schools to open safely on January 11.

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas said on Saturday that for precautionary reasons, the Prime Minister decided to tighten measures during the week of January 3-10, 2021.

Therefore, all activities and services that are gradually allowed in Greece starting from holidays will be suspended from 6 am on Sunday, January 3 to 6 am on Monday, January 11.

Petsas said Greece has a high number of new coronavirus cases and pressure on the country’s health system continues. At the end of the second week of January, the country’s epidemiological situation will be assessed, and new announcements will be issued on other areas of social and economic activity in Greece.
