Greece announced on Monday the first locally produced rapid antigen test for the novel coronavirus, which was hailed as a “major success” by the Ministry of Development.
The test is part of a 2.9 million euro research project funded by the Ministry of Education. The test can detect whether someone is a carrier of the virus in just a few minutes.
This is the result of a collaboration between six research centers and four universities .
Minister Christoph Dimaspointed out that “to take advantage of the special human research potential that we have in order to be able to make a significant contribution to the fight against the coronavirus at the domestic research level.”
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that it is applying for a patent from the Industrial Property Organization and is also looking for a company that produces the test kit.
