Naples was shocked by the news of the death of its football legend and favorite adopted son Diego Maradona (60 years old) following a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
People cried openly for the football genius outside his former temple, São Paulo Stadium. He led Naples to two scudetti in 1987 and 1990, and Argentina to the World Cup in 1986.
The Neapolitan exchanged memories of his greatest actions and goals. A woman told reporters: “2020 is indeed the worst year.”
Naples posted an ecstatic photo on a sky blue shirt with the title “Forever” and a melancholy heart.
The Mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, said: ”Diego Armando Maradona is dead and the greatest football player ever. Diego made our people’s dreams come true. With his talent he redeemed Naples. In 2017 he became an honorary citizen. Diego, Naples and Argentina, you gave all of us happiness and joy! Naples loves you.”
