A survey published by Istituto Demoskopika showed that due to COVID-19, Italy will lose half of its “tourists” this year.
The survey shows that the number of tourists will drop by 52.5% to 173.5 million, and the number of tourists will drop by 51.1% to 48 million. The survey is based on data from eight months ago a year ago.
It said that the situation will not change much in the rest of the year. The survey showed that the municipality’s income from the accommodation tax fell by 211 million euros.
Tourist spending has been reduced by 16 billion euros, almost halved, equivalent to 7.2 billion euros, mainly in Veneto, Tuscany and Lombardy and other countries with an internationalization rate of more than 50%. Veneto, Lombardy, Tuscany, Sicily and Lazio are the five worst-hit region.
