Report says obesity rises during quarantine in Italy

According to a new Italian report, obesity rose sharply during the recent coronavirus blockade in Italy.

Cardiologists and other medical professionals “should be prepared for a significant rise in obesity levels,” said the researchers from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia who published a “Pandemic Effect” report in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The report said that they should encourage overweight and obese people to resume a healthy diet and exercise regularly to reduce the weight generated during the lock-up period.

It said that anxiety and stress, as well as the fear of getting enough food, caused people to eat badly and live a sedentary life in prison for nearly three months.
