Coronavirus: 13,449 new cases in Spain

  The coronavirus pandemic continues to spread in Spain, especially in one region: Madrid. The Ministry of Health’s latest report on the crisis was released on Monday evening. 


 

The report showed that a total of 13,449 new cases have been detected in Madrid since Friday (no data was released over the weekend). 

Health Minister Salvador Illa explained: “This is the second largest increase.” Fernando Simón, director of the Health Minister’s Coordination Center for Health Alerts (CCAES), appeared in front of reporters last night.

The same number released by Madrid last Monday was 11,991 new cases, compared with 10,864 in the previous week. Four weeks ago, the number was 9,440. Since last Friday, new cases registered in the Madrid area accounted for 42% of the total number of 31,785 registered in the Ministry’s report. This percentage has increased compared to 38% last week. 

 At the same time, the total number of cases nationwide continues to grow. Compared with other Mondays, when the total number of cases registered over the weekend arrived, September 28 was the largest increase so far in the second round: four weeks ago, 26,000 new cases were notified, a decrease of 5,000 from this Monday.
