In 2020, Ferragudo will celebrate the 500th anniversary of Queen D. Leonor’s status as a village. To celebrate this date, the Lagos City Government and Ferragudo Diocese Council have decided to prepare a series of activities that will be carried out throughout the year, including those that will begin at the end of this month.
On October 31 and November 1, the “Ferragudo 1520-2020: March 500th Anniversary” was held as part of the celebration of Ferragudo’s 5th anniversary. The event will start at 9 am and will be held at the Diocese Social Center of the Algarve Diocese.
In the event “The Past and Future of Ferragudo”, discussions will be conducted through lectures by “researchers engaged in local history and heritage studies”.
On October 31, a historical research paper written by David Roque will be published under the title “Ferragudo: Local Economy in the 17th Century”. On the last day of the celebration, a guided Ferragudo guided tour will take place, the purpose of which is to show the participants the heritage of the village. The event is open to the public, especially “people interested in the local history of Lagos”.
