Portugal: House Price Index up 1.0 Percent

House prices in Portugal increased by 1% in the third quarter of 2020 over the previous quarter and are currently at 2,090 euros per square meter. 


According to data provided by Idealista, the regions where prices increase every quarter are the Central Region (4.4%), the Autonomous Region of Madeira (2.5%), the Algarve (2.1%) and the North (1.3%). In contrast, prices in the Azores Autonomous Region (-4.5%), Lisbon City (-1.4%) and Alentejo (-0.2%) fell. 

The Lisbon Metropolitan Area remains the most expensive area at 2,954 Euros per square meter, followed by the Algarve (2,343 Euros per square meter), the North (1,787 Euros per square meter) and the Autonomous Region of Madeira (1,595 Euros per square meter). At the other end of the price range, the Azores Autonomous Region (997 euros per square meter), Alentejo (1,029 euros per square meter) and the center (1,083 euros per square meter) are the cheapest areas.

Lisbon (3,268 euros/sqm) followed closely, followed by Faro (2,343 euros/sqm) and Porto (2,087 euros/sqm). The cheapest prices are in Portalegre (634 Euros per square meter), Guarda (644 Euros per square meter), Castelo Branco (695 Euros per square meter) and Bragança (775 Euros per square meter). 


Lisbon is still the most expensive city to buy a house, at 4,614 euros per square meter. Porto (2,895 euros per square meter) and Faro (1,949 euros per square meter) ranked second and third respectively.
