Tourism giant Thomas Cook, reorganized after bankruptcy and now owned by Fosun Tourism, a subsidiary of Fosun Group owned by Chinese billionaire Guo Guangchang, says Greece continues to top the list when it comes to destination tourism.
The company now says that despite many travel difficulties in the time of the coronavirus, Greece continues to be a favorite destination of its customers.
Alan French, the new Thomas Cook, confirmed to interviewers at the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that “Greece is currently the country with the highest sales for our company.”
He invited all Greek hoteliers and travel companies to work with Thomas Cook again, as they had done before the company was forced into bankruptcy after being the UK’s leading travel agency for decades. Not owing money to its creditors anymore, the company started operating a few weeks ago running purely online. Travelers can plan their trips and activities on their own, but in the future, Thomas Cook will offer additional services including travel insurance, airport parking, car rentals and other transportation.
The Fosun Group acquired the venerable British travel agency and all its internet services in November 2019. The Shanghai-based company is responsible for 100 billion euros in assets scattered around the world. He has recently shown an interest in Greece in particular, especially in Ethniki Asfalistiki.
