Greek museum Benaki will hold online art auction
According to a press release, the historic Greek museum Benaki will hold an online art auction from November 30 to December 7.
Auctions will be used as a way to support museum finances, because after the coronavirus pandemic, most museums and cultural organizations in Greece and all other cultural institutions around the world are facing a shortage of funds.
These artworks are not only donated by artists who have previously exhibited works in the museum or collaborated with the Benaki Store, but also by friends and supporters of the museum.
The auction will begin on the customary Benaki’s annual festival date, which of course cannot be held this year due to pandemic restrictions.
This event will be coordinated by the Museum’s Fundraising and Development Department and its Sustainable Development Volunteer Committee.
The event will start at 10:00 am on Monday, November 30, and end at 8:00 pm on Monday, December 7. It will include more than 240 artworks by 138 different artists, with a starting price of only 50 euros.
The full catalog of exhibitions can be found on the museum’s website www.benaki.org.
The Benaki Museum said in a statement that despite the closure of museums and cultural institutions throughout the country due to the pandemic, the Benaki Museum remains committed to its cultural role.
