Rita Marques, director of the Portuguese Tourism Agency, said that due to the coronavirus outbreak, Portugal’s tourism industry will lose 60,000 jobs this year alone, and the recovery is still far away.
She told Reuters that after the pandemic, some parts of the country must diversify their economy dependent on tourism.
The Secretary of State predicts that by the third quarter of 2021, international visits will rebound, depending on the success of the COVID-19 vaccine, but it will not be until 2023 for these people to return to pre-pandemic record levels.
