After the new elevator was put into use on Thursday, the Acropolis, a symbol of Western civilization, is now more convenient for the disabled. 

The wheelchair lift will provide wheelchair users, the elderly and others with mobility impairments access to the monuments of the Acropolis. It will start from the ancient promenade on the northern slope of the Acropolis and take visitors directly to the top of the mountain.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the elevator is “a landmark project for the international community on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.”

Mitsotakis pointed out that the new elevators and new access routes make the Acropolis more suitable for the elderly and elderly people with limited mobility. 

Until recent years, the main passage of the Acropolis was the only way to the ancient buildings, where the marble was very slippery.

The Prime Minister noticed: “This government does not like words, but like actions.” He emphasized that without the help of the Onassis Foundation, the project would not be realized.
