Italian president: Recovery plan approval before political confrontation

A political source told Reuters on Monday that the Italian head of state Sergio Mattarella hopes that both the cabinet and the parliament will approve the EU’s recovery plan before any political showdown between the ruling parties.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte faces confrontation with his coalition partner and former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi (Matteo Renzi) and may overthrow his government even in the fight against COVID-19.

Sergio Mattarella’s request may extend the deadlock. He asked the cabinet and parliament to approve the economic recovery plan before responding to the government crisis, which warned Lenz and Conte to put national interests first and avoid escalation of hostilities.

Italy will receive approximately 209 billion euros (US$254.83 billion) from EU funds to help the group revive the coronavirus-hit economies, more than any other member country, but its spending plan requires Brussels’ approval .

If the government collapses, the Coalition can seek to draft a new agreement and agree to a revised ministerial group led by Conte or not.
