Algarve producers stated that the 2020/2021 citrus season was “very good” and broke records. According to Pedro Valadas Monteiro, Regional Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Algarve’s orange and lemon production is expected to continue to break national records with high quality.
It was previously reported that this year, the Continente distribution chain will acquire 14,500 tons of Algarve oranges from producers, an increase of 5% over the past.
The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. It has an area of 4,997 km2 with 451,006 permanent inhabitants and incorporates 16 municipalities.
The region has its administrative centre in the city of Faro, where both the region’s international airport and public university, the University of Algarve, are located. The region coincides with Faro District.
