The Portuguese Infarmed Medicine Authority stated that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 continue to outweigh any risks to patients.
Prior to this, the Netherlands became the latest country to suspend the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine due to concerns about possible side effects.
The Republic of Ireland made a similar decision earlier on reports of blood clotting. Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria, Iceland and Thailand have stopped using the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The General Administration of Health and Drug Supervision of Portugal, said that the AstraZeneca vaccine can continue to be used in Portugal, and emphasized that there is no evidence that there is a link between vaccination and severe blood clotting events in other countries.
Two entities in Portugal stated: “So far, there is no evidence that vaccination may be the origin of these events”.
