To mark St. Patrick‘s Day, celebrated globally on March 17, many Portuguese landmarks were illuminated in green today. “Global Greening” aims to have a positive impact on St. Patrick’s Day around the world by lighting up hundreds of internationally renowned attractions.
This year, the Irish Embassy in Portugal cooperated with the Irish Tourism Board. The Portuguese Tourism Board illuminated in green ten monuments and locations from Porto to the Algarve as part of a wide range of activities to celebrate the festival.
The list includes iconic locations such as the Clérigos Tower in Porto, the statues of King Dom José I and Cristo Rei in Lisbon, and the Faro International Airport in the Algarve.
Ralph Victory, the Irish Ambassador to Portugal, said: ”Although the ongoing public health situation means that we cannot celebrate the National Day in person, the Irish Embassy in Lisbon is still providing a “green” sign to show hope and solidarity with our Portuguese friends during these challenging times.”
”With the strong assistance of Tourism Ireland and the Dublin Office of Tourism Portugal, we are very happy to set a new record this year by lighting a series of Portuguese historic buildings and locations, the length and breadth of Portugal, in green up to and on the night of March 17″ he added.
