Premier Mario Draghi said on Tuesday that the COVID-19 emergency has demonstrated the need to invest in the health sector in the long run.
“The latest pandemic forces us to be more prepared for the future,” Draghisaid during a webinar with European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen to hear from civil society leaders ahead of the Global Health Summit on May 21 in Rome.
“We need to get to work right away because we have no idea how long this pandemic will last or when the next one will hit.” Study must be supported, procurement chains must be strengthened, and national health services must be restructured. “We need to improve global collaboration and cooperation.”
According to the health ministry, there have been 13,844 additional COVID-19 cases in Italy in the last 24 hours, and 364 more victims. On Tuesday, there were 12,074 new cases and 390 new victims. There have been 350,034 fewer tests since Tuesday, compared to 294,045 on Tuesday.
From 4.1 percent to 3.9 percent, the positivity rate has dropped by 0.2 percent.
Intensive case cases have decreased by 75, while hospital admissions have decreased by 471.
