The Spanish government has agreed to allow European Union nationals to join the country without having to pass the COVID-19 test or undergo self-isolation if they have a Digital Green Certificate, which will be valid starting in June.
The Digital Green Certificate, also known as a vaccine passport, will be ready by June, according to EU officials.
It would encourage visitors to fly freely in the EU, including Spain, without being subject to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
“It will enable more people to arrive in a safer way, promote people’s mobility within the European Union, guarantee public health security, and encourage social and economic development to resume without charge,” said Alfredo Gonzales, the General Secretary of Digital Health.
Furthermore, Gonzales clarified that the credential is neither a visa nor a requirement for travel.
It will, however, go a long way toward improving tourism in Spain during the summer months.
According to SchengenVisaInfo.com, Gonzales also stated that Spain had begun the process of certificate deployment in order to be ready by June.
The EU Commissionhas stated that awarding the certificates would be the responsibility of each country’s authorities.
Nonetheless, the agency from which Spain will issue them is yet to be determined.
In March, the EU Commission was the first to suggest the development of a Digital Green certificate, which would enable vaccinated EU citizens to travel freely within the bloc.
Member states will also have the option of requiring EU visitors to verify or self-isolate.
They must, however, notify the Commission and all Member States of their decision, along with relevant reasons.
The following information will be included in the Vaccine Certificate, according to the EU Commission:
Surname and given name
Year of birth
State issuing the document
A QR code that can be used to mark you.
For those who received the vaccine, the medication, manufacturer, number of doses, and date of vaccination are mentioned.
For checked travelers, the type of test, the time and date of the test, the test center, and the test results.
For recovered travelers, the date of the positive test outcome, the issuer of the certificate, the date of issuance, and the validity date are all important.
Furthermore, the certificates’ authenticity will be determined by the facts that will be collected after they are fully operational, and will be tailored accordingly.
Prior to April 19, 2021, Spain expanded current measures for third countries where COVID-19 mutations have spread broadly.
