As of Thursday, July 15, officers of the Hellenic Coast Guard will be in charge of checking travelers documents at ports before they board boats to the Greek islands.
According to the Greek Shipping Ministry, coast guard officials will oversee the boarding procedure to ensure that tourists’ proper documentation are properly verified and that passengers’ health is protected to the greatest extent feasible.
Following a meeting at the ministry headed by Shipping Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis, the statement was made.
“Travelers are advised to bring all required documentation, to adhere to all safety precautions, and to observe the directions of coast guard officers,” Plakiotakis added.
Passengers traveling by ferry should be at the port at least one and a half hours before their planned departure time, according to the ministry.
Before going from the mainland to the Greek islands, all ferry passengers must complete a health disclosure questionnaire. They must also possess one of the following characteristics:
– a vaccination certificate or a recovery certificate
– a negative PCR test performed less than three days (72 hours)
– a negative rapid antigen test taken 48 hours prior to travel.
