Tourism experts on the Greek island of Evia have begun an online campaign to raise awareness and raise funds to rebuild their future after 5,000 hectares of woods and many of their businesses were destroyed in three days by fire.
Tourism stakeholders in Northern Evia are using the hashtag #Support_Tourism_VoriaEvia to encourage tourists to visit the island, which is Greece’s second largest, by providing suggestions and recommendations – via https://voriaevia.gr – in the area, including beaches, spas and natural springs, monasteries and sites, as well as a list of hotels and other forms of accommodation.
Evia Hoteliers Association President Miltiades Chelmis expressed worry over the future of tourism on the northern part of the island, telling state radio ERT that the tourist season has passed, underlining the necessity for an immediate action plan to “rebuild the local tourism industry.”
