EU lifts travel restrictions for Indonesia

The Council of the European Union has added Indonesia to its list of epidemiologically safe third countries after the country marked a decline in the number of coronavirus infections in its territory.

The decision means that member states are now advised to lift the entry ban on Indonesian residents as soon as possible, whether they are vaccinated or not. Enjoyed this post? Never miss out on future posts by following us.

“Following the recommendation of the gradual lifting of temporary restrictions on non-essential travel within the EU, the Council has updated its list of countries, special administrative regions and practices. other territorial entities and competent authorities should lift travel restrictions. In particular, Indonesia has been added to the list,” the Council noted in a press release issued on November 18.

Hence, from this date, countries on the EU’s list of safe third countries, whose Member States should remove entry restrictions for non-essential travel and for Unvaccinated visitors are included as follows.

Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Namibia, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, South Korea, Uruguay

“Travel restrictions should also be gradually lifted for the special administrative regions of China, Hong Kong and Macao. In the category of entities and local governments not recognized as a Country by at least one Member State, travel restrictions on Taiwan should also be gradually lifted,” the Council noted.

It further explained that residents of four European Microstates: Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican – should be considered residents of the EU under this recommendation.

One of the main conditions for a country to be on this list is that it must have registered fewer than 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the two weeks before the list was updated.

World Health Organization (WHO) data shows that Indonesia had less than one case per 100,000 population in the previous seven days.
