Tourists on Italy holidays warned of 10,000 Euro fines for breaking laws

“Discover the allure of an Italian holiday, where ancient wonders and stunning scenery await. Immerse yourself in rich history, savor delectable cuisine, and soak up the vibrant culture. From the iconic landmarks of Rome to the picturesque coasts of Amalfi, Italy offers a dream vacation. Start planning your Italian escape for an unforgettable adventure.”

In order to assist travelers in preserving their holiday funds for tourism rather than facing costly penalties, The Express has compiled a list of lesser-known laws in Italy.

While Rome remains a popular destination for tourists, it is important to note that sitting on the Spanish Steps is prohibited to safeguard this renowned monument from damage. Notably, an American tourist received a fine last year for enjoying an ice cream while seated on a historic fountain in an effort to cool off.

Bathing in fountains is considered illegal in several Italian cities, including Florence and Rome. Additionally, tourists could face a hefty fine of up to 10,000 Euros (£8,500) for public urination.

In the city of Venice, swimming in the canals is strictly forbidden. Apart from being highly dangerous, the water in the canals is highly contaminated and can cause severe illnesses in swimmers.

On the picturesque island of Capri, it is unlawful to bring disposable plastics, and violating this law could result in fines of up to 500 Euros (£429). The banned items include plastic carrier bags, cutlery, plates, cups, food packaging, trays, and straws.

Moreover, it is important to be aware that removing sand, shells, or pebbles from coastal areas can lead to penalties for tourists visiting various locations in Italy.
