Malta: Cash incentives to potential travelers

In order to revive the Covid-19-hit economy, a European country that relies on tourists has offered some cash rewards to potential travelers.

Malta has announced a new plan under which tourists who stay at least three nights at participating hotels will receive cash rewards.

Visitors in five-star hotels will receive 100 Euros from the Malta Tourism Board program, which will then be matched by the hotel, which means they will receive 200 Euros for bookings.

Guests staying in a four-star hotel will receive a total of 150 Euros, and guests staying in a three-star hotel will receive 100 Euros. Anyone who makes a reservation on the island of Gozo will receive an additional 10% bonus.

The tourist office of Malta has a budget of 3.5 million euros and hopes to attract 35,000 tourists. Maltese tourists are attracted by the island’s beaches, architecture and laid-back lifestyle. Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo told Reuters: ”The plan aims to put Malta’s hotels in a very competitive position when the international tourism industry restarts.”

The island’s beaches, architecture and laid-back lifestyle attracted more than 2.7 million tourists to Malta in 2019, but this number has fallen by more than 80% since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Statista‘s data shows that Malta has always stood out in terms of vaccination programs, using 51.55 doses of vaccine per 100 population. This is the second highest vaccination rate in Europe, after the UK. Cheap Airline Deals
